Bengaluru: Harassed by BBMP official, contractor attempts suicide

Bengaluru, Jun 18: In an incident reported from Jayanagara in the city, a contractor tried to commit suicie inside his car. He reportedly was being harassed for bribe by a Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) official.

The contractor who tried to kill himself by consuming excessive dose of sleeping pills happens to be Girish (36). The official who harassed him has been named as Usha, BBMP accounts superintendent at Jayanagara. Girish is being treated in the intensive care unit of a private hospital here.

Reportedly, Girish sought contract work of maintaining Jayanagar Park. Usha sought money from him. Girish promised to pay her and as security, handed over documents of his Innova car to her.

Since a week, she pestered him for money, it is said. When he refused, Usha got a complaint filed against Girish through her relative. Her relative, Deepak, also posed a death threat to Girish, it is said. These developments had physically and mentally drained Girish, who tried to end his life. His condition continues to be precarious.

Girish's wife, in a complaint filed at Byadarahalli police station, has named Usha and her relative, Deepak, as the accused. They have been booked under sections 384, 504, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
