Udupi, Feb 19: As power supply continues to play hide and seek in the coastal region, both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts are turning into no power zones frequently. If the situation does not improve, the residents here are afraid, they may have to brace up to live without power supply. If the current situation is any indication, the government’s ability to keep up its promise of ensuring proper power supply during examination time, is being doubted. The students, who have to study hard for the examinations, are the worst hit.
The problem of power generation that already existed aggravated with the shutting down of power plants in Raichur and Bellary on Tuesday. The situation did not improve on Wednesday too. The power generation, which is not at all enough to meet the current demand, further plunged by about 700 mw with the shutting down of the said power plants. Sources say that efforts are on to augment power supply by restarting these plants.
Puttur MLA, Mallika Prasad, has complained to the Chief Minister, drawing his attention to complaints from her constituency, that load shedding is being resorted to excessively in Puttur and Sullia taluks, as compared to other places in the state. The problem is said to have gone from bad to worse, because of lack of coordination between the officials of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd that manages Netlamudnoor sub-station, and the Mescom officials in Puttur.
