Kundapur, Jul 17: “The amendment to Land Reforms Act by the state government is an agenda of snatching land from the poor and handing it over to capitalists.
Coronavirus is spreading rapidly. The day the amendment is passed by the government is a disastrous day for the state. The Act that is against the farmers, daily wage workers and backward class has made the civilized society bow its head. Taking an oath in the name of farmers wearing green clothes is an insidious drama,” stated Kundapur block Congress committee president Kanmakki Hariprasad Shetty in a press release.

“Devaraj Urs took a pro progress revolutionary decision of amending Land Reforms Act in 1974, handing over the land to who ploughs the fields. Nobody other than farmers could buy agricultural land under its provisions. Those who submit false affidavits under it could be punished. The Karnataka state government is withdrawing such pro progress decisions. It is bringing in amendment to section 63 increasing the limit of land that a family can hold from 118 acre to 436 acre. It is beneficial only to real estate businessmen and capitalists. It will lead to decrease in food production,” he added.

“It is shameful and regretful that the government which should help people suffering due to Covid-19 pandemic has brought this amendment that is against farmers who are the backbone of the country and the poor,” he stated in the press release.
