Bengaluru, Jul 24: A former software engineer who reportedly was addicted to liquor, tried to kill his own daughter in a drunk state. In the scuffle which ensued, he lost his own life. This incident happened within the limits of Mico Layout police station here.

The deceased has been identified as Sapatak Banerjee (46), a native of West Bengal. He was killed in a fight with his minor daughter. A case under section 304 of Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) has been registered against the daughter.

Saptak's wife had died six months back. He had left his job thereafter and was living in an apartment on Bannerghatta main road with his daughter and a son.

On Thursday morning, he got drunk and in an inebriated state, picked up a quarrel with the daughter and menacingly moved forward and made an effort to stab her with scissors. The daughter escaped the attack and resisted her father's moves. In the melee, the sharp edge of the knife penetrated into the father's body, killing him instantly, it is learnt.

Banerjee had not sent his two children to school after his wife's demise, sources revealed.
