Mangaluru: Boat capsizes at sea, miraculous escape for six fishermen

Mangaluru, Jul 25: A fishing boat turned turtle at sea due to giant waves. The incident happened in the morning hours of Friday July 24 at Sasihithlu within Haleangady gram panchayat limits.

All the six fishermen in the boat had a providential escape. The fishermen, identified as Pramod, Sudhakar Salian, Kumar, Hemachandra, Somanath and Siraj, who had left for fishing early in the morning, were engaged in the task when huge waves rocked the boat due to sudden changes in the climate. Three fishermen swam to the shore and saved themselves. The others were rescued by another boat which was in its vicinity.

The boat however, was washed away by the waves. Out of the fishermen, Kumar became sick. Estimated loss in this incident has been put around three lac rupees.
