India Win Gold in World Cup Archery

Antalya (Turkey), Jun 11 (IANS): The Indian troika of Rahul Banerjee, Mangal Singh Champia and Jayanta Talukdar hit their arrows with precision to ensure a recurve gold medal for the country in the World Cup Archery (stage II) Thursday.

The Indians bettered the United States 218-214 in the final.

The Indian trio proved too good for the Americans and maintained the lead throughout the final to win the first gold medal of the series.

India led 54-50 in the first end of six arrows to take a commanding four point lead. In the second end of six arrows, however, the Indians surrendered three points (51-54) to be ahead by only one point.

In the third end of six arrows, Banrejee and Champia hit the bull’s eye twice as the Indians finished 57-53 to open up an overall five point lead 162-157.

India went down by one point 56-57 in the final end of six arrows, but won the contest 218-214.

In the Porec World Cup in May, India had to settle for a silver after going down to Italy.
