Kundapur, Apr 19: Rashtriya Heddari Horata Samiti submitted an appeal to the deputy commissioner through the assistant commissioner K Raju on April 19 urging to set right the irregularities conducted in national highway works.

“Most of the work concerning Shastri circle flyover is completed and it is ready for being allowed for traffic. Though it is commendable, the Navyug company which had taken up on contract the national highway works is trying to portray that all the works concerning the highway is over. It is actually the subject of anxiety. Navyug company should not go away or excuse itself without setting right the irregularities in the highway and without entirely completing the works,” stated the appeal.

“The stormwater that flows from the flyover and embankment should gather in front of the PWD office and flow from there onto the service road and join the stormwater drain. Is this scientific? Water deposits on the service road appearing like a lake in the monsoons obstructing traffic. The water splashes on the body of pedestrians. What is the permanent solution for it? The confusion around Shastri circle, the entrance to the highway is not over. The Shastri circle that used to provide sheen to Kundapur has lost its shape. Whose responsibility is it to renovate it? There are no footpaths for pedestrians to walk safely here. When will their construction be completed?”

“In which places are dividers provided from Sangam to Koteshwar. Are the scientific parameters for vehicles arriving from service road to national highway followed? How will one cross the road near Bobbaryana Katte where there are 17 offices including school and police office? The Samiti has placed their issues in front of the deputy commissioner. Who will solve the issues and when? To who should Kundapur residents make responsible if those issues continue?” The samiti has requested the deputy commissioner, officials and people representatives to visit the site within a week, conduct an inspection and take action.

Ganesh Putran said that the Horata samiti had taken a few decisions in a public meeting held on Saturday and explained them to the assistant commissioner by way of the appeal. “The assistant commissioner has said that highway engineers accompanied by Navyug officials will visit the spot within the next seven to eight days for inspection. If it is not inspected, we will submit another appeal next Monday,” he said.

Kundapur Rashtriya Horata Samiti convener Kenchanoor Somashekar Shetty, B Kishore Kumar, railway Horata committee’s Ganesh Putran, Vivek Nayak, Joy Carvalho, working journalist association president Shashidhar Hemmady, advocate Shiriana Gopalakrishna Shetty, former municipal council vice president Rajesh Kaveri and others were present.
