Mangalore, Aug 24: Chief Minister (CM) B S Yeddyurappa, took part in ‘Raksha Bandhan’ programme organized at Sanghaniketan, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh karyalaya by RSS here on Tuesday August 24.

RSS Mangalore city sanghachalak M B Puranik presided.

Delivering lecture on Raksha Bandhan celebration, Dr P V Shenoy, Mangalore city saha sangha chalak said that the celebration unites the feelings of the hearts transcending caste, religion and creed barriers. It is this thread, though it may seem fragile, that is strong and pure symbolizing the Indian culture, which has been able to withstand the cultural, religious and economical onslaught on the nation.

Girl students of Roman and Catherine School for the Blind in the city, and women belonging to minority communities were among the first to tie Rakhis around CM's wrist on the occasion. Speaking to reporters after the programme, CM said that the trip to Mangalore has been made memorable with two Muslim women, members of BJP mahila minority morcha, tying rakhis around his wrist. This has made the celebration very meaningful, he said and added that RSS is an organization that builds patriotism and patriots with no malice against any religion.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, Mangalore south MLA N Yogish Bhat, Mangalore Urban Development Authority chairman Madhav Bhandary and Franklin Monteiro, state vice-president among others were present.

Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated on Tuesday August 24 over the country and falls on the full moon day of Shravana month.

I appreciate the comments made by Ismail Perinje,Siddarth,Mahesh & Iqbal Kukkikatte.Such constructive comments gave me good feelings. It is the expression from people with true educational background.Since some time I have been reading the comments pouring in Daiji World in response to various issues of our Mangalore, state & other parts of the country.
I have a suggestion. Now it is Ramadhan. A holy Month. Let us plan to join the Mangaloreans who celebrate Eid on the day of Eid.I wiil be more than happy & eager to join if they prepare nice Fish or chicken Biriyani. And in October let everyone join to celebrate Deepavali With lovely sweets, good food and burn fire crackers together. And in December we all will join together to celebrate Christmas with lovely Cakes & Wine & with Fish,Chicken or Mutton fried Rice.

Finally all join together again to welcome New Year 2011 with a powerful resolution to live with complete trust and respect for each other for rest our life.

Let our muslim freinds refrain from such hasty comments about the sentiments of other religion.Whether or not the women in burquas are muslim, it doesnt bother us in anyway. Comments on such issues make room for more nasty comments on every religion by others.Lets work for harmony, ultimately we all live in the same society, sharing the same land & same nature.Religion is a format made by ancients to make human afraid of sins ,check his undoings. Be Indian & be proud of being Indian. If u understand this u will make India a safe place for everyone to live.

Seeing all your negative and positive comments I couldn’t stop myself commenting on this article….

With all due respect to every religion and its beliefs, Raksha Bandan is definitely an imperative event for those who celebrate it. By seeing my close friends celebrate with their family members ‘where the sisters pray for the long life of brothers and ask God to bless them with his blessings. Brothers, in turn, give them enticing rakhi gifts and promise to care life long’ seeing this it feels very heart touching and truly will make anyone miss their sisters who may not be close or far off from them be that person may be of any religion or if they celebrate Raskha Bandan or not.

But by seeing these pics I feel that the CM has celebrated FRIENDSHIP DAY and not Raksha Bandan, dear CM please don’t spoil your image and this festival of Rakhi which “strengthen the bond of love between brothers and sisters”. Please do not set a negative trend to celebrate this festival.

I do not understand what is SO good about tying one Rakhi and how it benefits my state, i don't care who tied the rakhi to whom, but it would have been much better if the amount spent in coming down to Mangalore and tying rakhi's would have been spent on the Begger's colony or any other life saving events. And the moment people get a chance to talk they immediately start talking about ISLAM, as if Islam is a fruit from their backyard. Politics and religion are two different things understand and keep them separate. There are many impotent things in my state that need attention, and not events like this.

The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread, by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her as she presents sweets to her brother. The brother and sister traditionally feed one another sweets. It is not necessary that the rakhi be given only to a blood brother any male can be "adopted" as a brother by tying a rakhi on the person, irrespective of whether he is a cousin or a good friend. Indian history is replete with women asking for protection, through rakhi, from men who were not their brothers, nor Hindus themselves.

Dear CM can you ask your supporters NOT beat or do any harm any females in Karnataka. Hope you and your followers must know what is Rakhi and please obey the MORAL of that festival.

RSS is an organization that builds patriotism and patriots with no malice against any religion. How true but action speaks louder then words. From the starting the founder of rss shot Gandhi, because Naturam was peaceful and patriot, another pull down Babri masjid and the very person goes to Pakistan and s Jinnah as secular, and finally RSS attacks the churches and nuns in mangalore in a very peaceful way, their brother's ramsena attacks pubs because they are patriots and the list goes on and on.

Aren't the RSS responsible for controlling the food Muslims and dalits and majority Hindus eat, I mean beef. In the end Mr. yeddy there is a says" you cant teach old dog new tricks”. This is applicable to RSS.
