Udupi: MP Sadananda Gowda Urges Modernization of Coast Guard

Udupi, Aug 27:
MP Sadananda Gowda urged the union government to modernize the Coast Guard service which plays a vital role in protecting the country’s long coastline. He said that the efficiency of personnel engaged in coast guard duty should be improved through various measures.
 
“Following the Mumbai terror attack, the need for modernizing the Coast Guard stations in the country should take priority since the long coastline of the country is vulnerable to sea-borne intruders.  The stations of the Coast Guard must be equipped with the latest technology and the efficiency of personnel boosted to face any possible terror attacks”, stressed Gowda during the Parliamentary session, recently.
 
Union defence minister A K Antony, in his reply, stated that the ministry is in the process of modernizing the Coast Guard stations by allocating adequate funds.  He added that the ministry will also set up 10 new Coast Guard stations.
