Mangalore: Massive Collision of City Buses - Lucky Escape for 40 Commuters

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SB)

Mangalore, Aug 30: In what could be termed as favour of fate, as many as 40 passengers were saved with only five sustaining injuries when two city buses collided near Hotel Roopa on New Balmatta Road here in the early hours on Monday August 30.

The city bus Maroli Travels (44D) on its way to Hampankatta from Ullal collided with Manjanady Travels (51) on its way to Manjanady near Konaje from Hampankatta in the heart of the city at around 6.20 am. It is gathered that the Manjanady Travels was on the route violating one-way rule as it was early morning and following the impact of the collision the bus has been completely mangled breaking into two.

Among the injured five, a woman has sustained severe injuries while the other four men escaped with minor injuries. More passengers would have been injured, but as luck would have it Manjanady Travels that was just leaving the city was carrying only handful of commuters lessening the impact of the accident.

A case has been filed at the Kadri police station.

Meanwhile, in another incident that occurred near Vijaya Clinic on Kadri Kambala road here on Sunday August 29 at 11.00 pm, a Swift car bearing Kerala registration number KL - 05 W -33 with two persons hit a electric pole trying to avoid a pothole.

Thetwo persons travelling in the car have sustained minor injuries.

In Mangalore you just pay Rs 500 to an agent who is at the main entrance of RTO building. He will tell you how & what to answer questions from RTO. and you'll get licence. Previous experince in riding bulluck cart or riding single bicycle wheel with a stick is more than enough. Try you luck.

India has one of the highest road traffic accidents in the world . Sadly more people die in India than anywhere else in the world from RTA's. This is not a Mangalore phenomenon but an ALL INDIA PHENOMENON.
I have repeatedly stressed on three important things, the three E'S
    Education
    Engineering
    Enforcement
The country is backward in all respects .The respect shown to pedestrians and Cyclists is apalling in India .Over that there is corruption at every level.
    Has anyone got any solutions?

Lydia Lobo, Kadri, I guess i was talking about Balmatta Road ?? and moreover the accident was not coz of the road. Its coz of the driver's mistake - if u go to balmatta road every day, early morning all the buses make use of this one way as 2 way

Thanks to the potholes on the roads, the casualities are quite low on Indian roads. For our (worst) driving habits, the number of accidents and deaths will be exponentially high if we have good roads! Well, I am not joking - Kolkatta with an average speed of 6kmph has the least road deaths where as Delhi with an average speed of 20kmph has the highest road deaths in India.

It doesnt matter if the roads are bad or four-laned or even express highways.. do you really think that bus drivers and other motorists would slow down and avoid incidents on smooth roads?? No instead they race on those roads as though there's no tomorro! there's no patience when it comes to driving here in mlore.. its just sad to see innocent lives being lost everyday on account of bad driving..Even if the roads are bad, isnt it common sense to slow down? Instead of blaming the bad roads, blame the idiots who speed uncontrollably leaving dead people in their wake..
I hope the victims of the accidents recover soon..

driving wrong way is common to all in Mangalore. Simply loved by all 2 and 4 wheelers be it vip cars/jeeps or those coming out from the church, ex. Bendore church. motorists simply cut out in wrong side and drive wrong side of road jeopardising the motorists in the right track. how very careless and unconcerned inspite of having family members in the car and soon after prayers disobeying the traffic rules. this is our mentality. very difficult to change. see the bus has met the same fate. he was cheating daily and one day, he was finished. so motorists please remember your families when you break the traffic rules.

Please repair the roads and make it free from poth holes, we can reduce the accident drastically. Our roads are used by Reddy brothers to rob us off mineral wealth and Yeddy l is helpless like a impotent. Shame on this govt.

These city and service buses simply fly on roads with the help of AIR HORNS which is the main cause of RACING or SPEEDING. RTO and Traffic police are only spectators. ITS TIME TO WAKE UP.

A thesis on collision on Dr. Karanth Road.:)
44 coming down the road suddenly found another bus 51 in the same line of travel.
mistake no 1. route no 51 may have kept left (moron), while the angle of the road is towards right. (actually when driving on the wrong side, always be visible to the oncoming vehicles)
mistake 2. Both the drivers veered in the same direction atleast for a few seconds, while maintianing the same speed before it flashed in their alchohol ridden brain that they need to slow down and read the situation.
Finally. The driver of 51 tried hard to veer to the opposite direction at the last minute to save his and the buss's behind (which he succeded in upto an extent). This flashed in the other driver's brain and he too did the same i.e, ram towards the footpath of childrens corner. in the meantime he ripped open whatever was remaining of the illfated oncoimg bus, which was on his way.

Vincy, looking at the pics, it appears the 51 number bus was much slower compared to the 44D, upon impact, 51 was more like a stationery object compared to the 44D, simply laws of physics came into play transfering the entire internia into the body of the 51 . Cheers

Thank God THERE IS NOT SERIOUS INJURIES TO PUBLICS,THERE IS ONLY BUSES DAMAGED BADLY,THATS FINE. I WONDER!THE EARLY MORNING THERE WAS NO HUGE TRAFFICs THE ROADS ARE ALMOST EMPTY IN MANGLORE,THEN how the buses are involved such a massive collision. My suggestion  is both buses permits should cancelled.i am not blaming the drivers, their owner putting pressure on them to reach the dest very short time.i think this could be the main reasons for above accidents of public transports. system.

BEING EARLY MORNING,or, LATE NIGHT does not give anybody the right to break traffic rules. Busses break the rules, due to "arrangements" made at various Police stations. The Police seem to have lost the right, to look after the city
