Mangalore: Konkani Literary Appreciation Course Launched at Canara College

Mangalore, Aug 31: A certificate course on Appreciation of Konkani Literature was launched by Paul Moras, the president of Konkani Writers Forum, Mangalore at the inaugural function of Konkani Bhasha Vidyarthi Mandal at Canara College, Mangalore recently.

Basti Vaman Shenoy, president and founder of the World Konkani Centre inaugurated the Konkani Bhasha Vidyarthi Mandal, a Konkani Literary and cultural association of the college by lighting the lamp.



In his inaugural address Basti Vaman Shenoy expressed happiness about the large number of activities pertaining to Konkani in Mangalore. He appreciated that the goodtimes have arrived for Konkani, it is right time for the community to build up an academic enthusiasm in the Language so as to give their due to the mother toungue.

Paul Moras in his speech commended the college for introducing Konkani literary appreciation course. He said through this course Konkani students can understand the greatness of the Konkani literature and literary stalwarts like Shenoy Goembab, Chafra DCosta etc.

Guest of honour Venkatesh N Baliga, editor of Konkani fortnightly Kodial Khaber said, In a world where youths are drifting away from the language and culture, students of Canara college have shown there is still hope that our language and culture would survive by taking great interest in initiating Konkani Bhasha Vidyarthi Mandal.

Student Welfare officer of the college, Prof Satish Bhat expressed his satisfaction about introducing a course for Konkani language, being an Konkani Linguistic Minority Institution. He said he would expect an increase in linguistic, literary and cultural activities in the college from Konkani Bhasha Vidyarthi Mandal. Secretary of the Konkani Bhasha Vidyarthi Mandal Venkatesh Nayak was present on the dais.

Faculty advisor of KBVM Seema Prabhu S welcomed the gathering, Vishwas Pai did vote of thanks. Amit Rasquinha was the master of ceremony.
