Dharwad, Sep 1: Central Reserve Police Force Jawan, Shankarappa Bhajantri, who had absconded after killing three persons at his native place on Monday August 30, was nabbed at Davangere on Tuesday August 31. There too, he fired at a constable and injured him.
Bhajantri, who was near Aruna movie theatre in Davangere, started running away after seeing a police patrol. The policemen, thinking that he is a thief, gave him a hot chase. Bhajantri then tried to escape by sneaking into the house of a doctor there, and then fired at constable Manjunath, injuring him in the waist region. Manjunath was admitted into the City Central Hospital at Davangere, where he is being treated.
The other two constables, Majeed and Anjaneya, succeeded in arresting Bhajantri. A revolver and 34 live bullets were recovered from him.
