Kasargod, Sep 3: Abdullahi Tasi (27), who owns a shop named wood Deluxe Furniture in Hosdurg, and son of Hamza, residing near Pappinssery M M Hospital in Kannur, was arrested on Thursday September 2, on the charges of murdering K V Tangamani on August 17.

Tangamani, wife of K Bhaskaran, district secretary of Kerala State Gazetted Officers Association’s Kasargod district unit, and senior superintendent of the district consumers’ grievances redressal forum, residing in Karindala Mayyangana, was murdered by tightening a cloth around her neck and then repeatedly stabbing her. A car used by the accused has also been seized by the policemen.

The policemen made this arrest, after obtaining help from the cyber cell and establishing the identity of the murderer through forensic laboratory tests. They say that financial dispute between the two culminated in the said murder.

The policemen claim that Tangamani had bought some furniture items from Abdullahi’s shop, and in course of time, the two came close to each other. Tangamani, making use of this friendship, borrowed Rs 2,16,000 from the accused. Tangamani used to pester the accused for more money, failing which she threatened to ruin his family life by using recorded mobile conversations between her and Tasi. As Tangamani did not yield to his offer of entering into an understanding, he came to Tangamani’s home on August 17 in his car, and offered Rs 25,000 to her for ending his harassment once and for all. As she did not yield, he turned angry and tightened a dhoti lying there around her neck and stabbed her 35 times with a knife found there. He disappeared from the scene, after taking away gold ornaments found in Tangamani’s home and on the body of her 18-month-old child, the policemen said.

Circle inspector, Sunil Kumar, said that the police custody of the accused will be sought after producing him before the court at Hosadurg.
