Sullia, Oct 14: A person named Nagappa, an employee of the government, who was on security duty inside the temple precincts at Lord Subrahmanya Temple in Subrahmanya, was nabbed while trying to steal money from the donation boxes of the temple.  On producing him in the court, he was remanded to judicial custody. The incident has come in the heels of a recent incident in which a government official on supervisory duty at the donation boxes counting operation was caught red-handed while placing currency notes in his pockets.

After the conclusion of Mahapuja on Tuesday night, the priests inside the temple had gone to the temple hall, where a programme was on. The main door of the temple was closed. Another security personnel named Vittal, who saw Nagappa trying to steal money from the donation boxes by using a stick fitted with a magnet and smeared with gum, to take away money, reported the matter to the temple office. After temple executive officer, Ningaiah, and priest, Balasubrahmanya Bhat, rushed into the temple and checked, only Rs 59 could be found to have been taken away by the security man from the donation box.
