Mangalore, October 15: Jeppu-Attavar ward BJP Committee has urged the Central Government and railway department to construct a railway underpass at Jeppu-Kudpady.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, KP Shetty Bedemar, president of the committee said that there are more than 200 houses in the nearby areas of railway gate and they find it difficult when the gates are closed in times of emergencies as there are no alternative access roads.

Regular commuters, students and others face much inconvenience as they have to wait till the level crossing gates open. Many of them are delayed to work or school. The residents of the area have been urging the authorities to construct Road under Bridge (RUB) or Road over Bridge (ROB) since 1997, but no works have been undertaken so far, he lamented.

B Ravindra Kumar, member of MCC pointed out that people's woes have aggravated with the increase in the number of trains on the route. Trains pass every now and then through this route and the railway gate has to be closed for minimum 15 minutes every other time, resulting in traffic jams. If the concerned authorities fail to construct an under pass the residents will take out an agitation, he warned.

Bhasker Kiran, vice- president, M Devdas Shetty, general secretary, Pradeep Nataraj, joint secretary and Pushparaj among others were present.
