Mangalore, Oct 15: The stage is set for inauguration of 'Mangalore Dasara' at Sri Gokarnanatha Kshetra at Kudroli on Saturday October 16.

Harikrishna Bantwal, trustee of the committee said at a press conference here on Friday October 15 that leading artistes from different parts of the state will perform cultural programmes till October 16. Former KPCC president B Janardhan Poojary will preside. The Mahotsava will conclude with the grand Dasara procession that will be taken out in the city on October 17. 

The eighth day of the Navarathri utsav will be dedicated to Sharada Mahotsava. The Navadurgas are: Mahagowri, Mahakali, Kathyayini, Shailaputhri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmandini, Skandmatha and Siddhidhatri. These life size idols are taken in the procession in a convoy of tableaux numbering over 100 this time.

On the last day of the celebrations a grand procession will feature over 100 tableaux from all over the state and some from the neighboring states.

The work of installing electrical illumination on the entire route of Dasara procession is complete, Harikrishna said, adding that the Kshetra has made arrangements to feed devotees who come there in the afternoon on all days of the festivities.
