Mangalore: Rasta Roko at NH - 13 on Nov 1

Mangalore, Oct 31: Gurupura Nagarika Samiti here will stage a rasta roko at Gurupur along national highway 13 on November 1.

Addressing reporters on Saturday October 30, K Ramachandra Bhandari, president of the samiti said that as there has been no response from the authorities concerned for taking measures to set right the bad roads at Gurpur, the locals forced to block the road to draw the attention to the woes of the residents of the area. Several two-wheeler riders have narrowly escaped death and also suffered grievous injuries commuting the unmotarable stretch with potholes as a routine. Especially, the middle portion of the bridge of the Phalguni at Gurupura that has caved  few months ago have aggravated the problem, he observed.

The authorities concerned have not responded to the pleas in this regard  and also not have taken up any measures to set right the problem, he lamented.

Potholes on all 3 NH's passing thru m.lore is common thing, Authorities including MMC are blind foded to the issue. Gurpura Bridge more than 50 yrs old and the bridge was constructed while NH13 was even not a State highway, later become SH25 abt 30-35 yrs ago, that time no heavy vehicular traffice on that road. Since it became NH13 Brigde is overlooked by NH authorities. Current situation is its almost unfit for the heavy vehicular transport. Authorities must take a serious note and act in time rather than waiting for mishape. Thousands of vehicles passing over each day bhagwan bharose !!!!!!!

Forget about maintaining the bridges. When the bridge collapses the authorities will realize that the bridge needed maintenance. Just look at the state of Nethravati Bridge near Ullal on NH 17. Do we need British to dictate to us that it is high time we build a parallel bridge not only to face any eventuality but also to handle heavy traffic.

It has been decades since the bridge is in service, and hardly any maintenance on it.
I am sure it was not designed for heavy haulage, and it has served trucks carrying 30 tons.
Is there any building code for bridges in India? especially for the National Highways??
Our elected leaders are busy securing their seats in the new elections and creating communal tension throughout the Coastal region.

It is really dangerous as it is meant for a single lane use, and it is pushed to the limits when 2 vehicles try to squeeze in!!

I appreciate the initiative taken by the Gurupura Nagarika Samiti. This is the only way we can voice for our rights in this country. PLEASE ELECT LEADERS THAT CAN REALLY SERVE THE CONSTITUENCY.... AND NOT THE CONSTITUENCY SERVING THE LEADERS !!!

    JAI HIND.
