Mangalore: ‘Sanskriti Express’ Depicting Tagore's Life Chugs into City

Mangalore, Nov 6:
Sankriti Express, the special exhibition train commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, arrived in city at the Mangalore Central Railway station on Friday November 5.

Admission to the exhibition train is free.The commencement of the exhibition was preceded by a brief cultural programme.
 
It arrived in the city after traveling across various states like Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It will depart from the city on Saturday November 6.
 
The train has five coaches. The first coach displays Tagore’s life, his reminiscences, Shanthinikethan and Srinikethan. Coach 2 includes Geetanjali – songs, verses and poems while coach 3 exhibits Muktodhara – short stories, novels, dramas and essays. Coach 4 comprises Chitrarekha – paintings, portraits and sketches and Coach 5 shows Seshkatha and Smaranika, that is, Tagore’s final journey and last days of his life.
 
The exhibition is open for public from 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday.
 
The ‘Sanskriti Yatra’ will run throughout the country over the next few months and return to Howrah on May 8, 2011.
