Udupi, Jan 27: Pitty Nagesh, who reportedly supplied knives to some inmates of the district jail here for executing the murder plan of another inmate, Vinod Shettigar, was arrested by the local policemen on his arrival at the local railway station in a train on Wednesday January 26. On his production in the court, Pitty was remanded to judicial custody till February 2. Shettigar was killed on January 14 this year inside the jail.

The policemen claim that during his interrogation, Pitty Nagesh confessed to them that he had supplied the knives. “Vinod had told another rowdy, that he would eliminate me. He had also made a murderous assault on me earlier. Therefore, I decided to end his life before he could finish me off,” he is said to have told the policemen. Pitty said that he had promised the killers of Vinod to pay one lac rupees. Muttappa, his younger brother, Nagaraj, Sheikh Riaz Ahmed and Sharanappa, are facing charges of murdering Vinod Shettigar.

It may be recalled that Vinod was in jail for trying to kill Pitty Nagesh, since July 20, 2010. Pitty had supplied knives to the jail inmates through Muttappa, who had attended a court hearing in Karkala on January 13. The knives hidden in the court toilet were picked up by Muttappa on that evening.

Pitty, who was remanded to judicial custody, claimed that he was unwell. It is gathered that he has been kept in a separate cell to avoid any further complications.
