Udupi, Jan 26: ‘Education should give dignity to the individual and transmit good values in society and eradicate corruption. It should help to choose the right way and do the right things.  The higher education should help in making a better society and a better individual’, said bishop of Bellary, Fr Henry D Souza.

He was presiding over the annual college day of Milagres College Kallianpur recently. Fr Marcel Saldanha was the guest of honour of the occasion.

Seema Shetty was honoured by the Bishop, who secured the ninth rank in Bachelor of Science in Mangalore University examination held in May 2010.

Dr Gerald Pinto, dean of faculty of science introduced Seema Shetty. Retired Prof Sadasghiva Alse, Prof Mary Mamen and J M Hegde were also honoured. Dr Ajith D’Souza who finished doctorate was also honoured on the occasion. The winners of various competitions were awarded with prizes.

Principal Fr Fred Mascarenhas presented the degree college report and Fr Vijay Lobo principal of pre-university also presented the pre-university college report. Staff secretary Joseph Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Ashok Kumar Hegde PTA president, Boniface D Souza alumni president, student council office bearers
Priyanka Furtado and Stefi Martis were present on the dais. Queenie and Derrick compered the programme.
