M’lore: Recent Advances in Web Technology Commences at St Joseph Engineering College

Mangalore, Jan 27: A three-day faculty development programme (FDP) on ‘Recent Advances in Web Technology” commenced at Bethania Seminar Hall, St Joseph Engineering College, here on Thursday January 27.


The FDP is organized for the teachers of technical institutions of Karnataka for quality improvement, by the department of Computer Science & Engineering of SJEC. The FDP is an initiative of the vision group on science and technology (VGST), Government of Karnataka and is implemented by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.

Dr Oswald A J Mascarenhas, chairman, post graduate studies in management, St Aloysius Institute of management and Information Technology (AIMIT), Mangalore inaugurated the programme.During his inaugural address he stressed the need of cyber ethics and laws for the better world. The director of the institute Fr Valerian D’Souza presided over the inaugural function and emphasized the role of web and information technology in a day-to-day life.

The principal Dr Joseph Gonsalvis released the course material and stressed the need of faculty development programmes to update the advancements in the science and technology. The coordinator of FDP and head of computer science and engineering department Dr Demian Antony D’Mello briefed the gathering about the purpose of workshop and the role of VGST and welcomed the gathering.

Prof Supriya Salian introduced the chief guest to the gathering and Prof Roopalaxmi proposed the vote of thanks.

After the formal function, Dr Oswald A J Mascarenhas delivered a keynote address on ‘World Wide Web and Cyber ethics: Buyer Privacy and Seller Responsibilities’.


The event was sponsored by VTU-VGST. In all, 40 participants of various engineering colleges of Karnataka are part of this faculty development programme.
