Kundapur: Mother Rushes to Save Child, Knocked Down by Train

Kundapur, Jan 28: A woman, who tried to save her son playing on railway tracks, got crushed by a speeding train on Thursday January 27. The incident occurred near Nagur railway station in the taluk.

Hanumakka (30), wife of Lakshman from Haveri, and her son, Sunil (3), lost their lives in this accident.

Hanumakka was washing clothes near the railway tracks behind Sandeepan English Medium School, when she saw her son, Sunil, running towards the tracks while playing. She saw an approaching goods train at the same time, and rushed to save her child. But the bodies of herself and that of child got shredded, as the train hit them at great speed, before she could steer her child to safety.
