Kasargod, Feb 1: In an incident that occurred at Hosadurg Manhipodi Kunnnil in the district, an idol of Lord Hanuman carved out of black stone, emerged out of burning bushes. The idol, weighing 15 kgs, was found from the ashes of the bushes, after the fire brigade personnel doused the fire.

The news spread like wild fire, and people rushed the spot in droves, and started garlanding the idol and offering pujas to it on the spot. The people protested the efforts made by the policemen to shift the idol elsewhere. They were not even prepared to heed to the arguments of the Hosadurg deputy superintendent of police, Joshi Cherian, temple theft squad circle inspector M V Vinod, and other police officers, that it was necessary to shift the idol, as the land on which it was found belonged to the government. After holding discussions, it was decided to install the idol near the place where it was found.

Later, the idol was handed over to veteran Vedic scholar, Keshavan Valunnor, for being installed in a site near the spot, owned by Krishnan Nair. The idol has since been temporarily installed at Mavungall Srirarama Temple near Manhipodi Kunnil police wireless centre.

The temple theft squad is investigating about the possibility of the idol having been stolen from a temple by thieves, and having been abandoned or hidden here.
