Puttur, Feb 8:
A tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas from the city to Bangalore, tumbled near Periyashanti in Nelyady in Puttur taluk, as a result of which gas started leaking from it. The incident occurred at around 6.30 am on Tuesday February 8.  As a result, traffic on national highway has been disrupted since today morning.

The tanker in question was carrying 12000 litres (ltr) of LPG, in three compartments of 4000 ltr each.

The fire brigade’s rescue team comprising water tender, 16 water dousers, and a rescue team each from Pandeshwar and Kadri fire brigades rushed to the spot. Fire fighters from Sullia, Beltangady and Moodubidri also have been rushed to the spot. The firemen have been trying their best to avert any grave mishap.

As per the latest information, the leakage has not stopped, the experts have already advised the local people not start fire at their homes for cooking or other purposes, as the area over which the leakage has spread has not yet been  assessed and confirmed. Meanwhile, the traffic from Bangalore to Mangalore has been diverted via Gundia to Kadaba, and the vehicles bound for Bangalore from the city are being sent via Charmadi ghat. The incident occurred in a remote forest area, where communication is difficult, and hence, rescue operations were delayed.

Nagesh Kumar, Mangalore Nalin Kumar has already raised this, but the UPA govt is not co-operating with him. I also have a question to you. Why only Nalin there are two great personalities from our districts in the central oscar and Moily. Are they not aware of our NH road problems. Is there a must that only Nalin has to work towards NH problems. Even those two people can work towards it.

The article says there was a leakage of gas from the toppled tanker.. then why are the fire fighters not wearing some fire protection suite in the event something should go wrong? Really an irresponsible act seen here by the concered fire dept who needs to take all necessary precautions as this is thier job.

This is what happens if the roads are repaired. One feels like driving carelessly and thereby inconveniences others by forcing them to divert and use another route to reach their destination. It is a different story if the roads are not repaired.

In both the cases, the innocent public suffers. I don't know what to choose - Good roads or bad roads !!!

The other day I was shocked & scared to see the empty tanker coming in full speed and almost hit my car head-on if not for my quick presence of mind. The drivers taking such a dangerous cargo should know the responsibility. Such irresponsible tanker drivers are very dangerous to these chaotic Indian roads and the dwelling homes along the State & National Highways. It is better to equip all tankers with governor to reduce the speed limit.
