Kundapur, Aug 20: The birth anniversary of former Chief minister Devraj Urs was celebrated at the block Congress office here on August 20.

Congress leaders offered floral tributes to the portrait of the leader.

Congress leader Malyadi Shivarama Shetty said that Devraj Urs dreamt of a new India in the era of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and tried to make it a reality. “He also struggled hard for the upliftment of the poor and the backward class of people,” he said.

Kundapur block Congress president Hariprasad Shetty Kanmakki who presided over the programme said that former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi dreamt of digital India. “Devraj Urs was one of the popular chief ministers the state saw. He professed social justice. Similarly our Siddaramaiah has great concern towards all groups of people. BJP has got down to a low level of throwing eggs at him,” he said.

Municipal council member Prabhavati Shetty and party leader Gangadhar Shetty spoke on the occasion.

Congress leaders K Vikas Hegde, Devaki Sannayya, Revati Shetty, Ramesh Shetty, Keshava Bhat, Joseph Rebello, Abhijith Poojary and Dolin Shobha were present.
