Bommai says KSDL capable of touching Rs 10,000 cr mark in turnover

Bengaluru, Aug 22: The State-owned Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd. (KSDL) has the capacity to touch the Rs 10,000 crore mark in business turnover, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday asking the company to ensure that the KSDL products including the famed Mysore Sandal Soap reaches the doorsteps of consumers.

Addressing a function after inaugurating KSDL’s Nalvadi Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar "Shrigandhavana’’ in Bengaluru, he said the company needs to step up its marketing network and also production line with attractive new products by adopting digital marketing strategies.

"What KSTDL needs is good marketing strategy and enhancing the production range as the Mysore Sandal Soap brand name is already known to the domestic as well as international consumers, who value quality,’’ he said.

At the same time, Bommai asked the KSDL officers and staff not to compromise on quality and run the company in a professional manner.

He said the State Government has established a FMCG cluster in Dharwad to give encouragement to industries to spread out to new areas and said KSDL should make use of the cluster.

The chief minister said Karnataka has emerged as the number 1 State in innovation and has signed MoUs for Rs 1,21,000 crore FDI in new ventures.

Ease of doing business, R &D must get priority, he said pointing out that the State already has over 400 international standard Research centres.

Bommai promised to come out with a new sandalwood policy to simplify sandalwood cultivation and also provide suitable incentives.

Upgrading of 7 Govt Engg. Colleges

Later, UVCE Board Chairman Muthu Raman called on the chief minister along with Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan on upgrading 7 government engineering colleges as Karnataka Institute of Technology Centres.

Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma, Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary I S N Prasad, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary N Manjunath Prasad and Higher Education Department Principal Secretary Rashmi Mahesh were present during the meeting.

The Chief Minister also held a departmental review meeting of Mines and Geology Department along with senior officials.
