Date announced for Mangaluru City Corporation mayor election

Mangaluru, Aug 27: Elections for the posts of Mayor, deputy mayor and four members of standing committee of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will be held on September 9 at 12 noon.

Due to legal reasons, the elections for the 23rd term of mayor and deputy mayor, which was slated to be held on March 2, were not held. As, the current mayor Premananda Shetty and deputy mayor Sumangala Rao continued, the term of next mayor and deputy mayor will be for only six months.

BJP has 44 seats in MCC, while Congress has 14 and SDPI two. The mayor positions is reserved for general category while the deputy mayor will be from backward community woman category.
