Udupi, Nov 23: The renovation of the more than a thousand years old Sri Vishweshwar temple in Yellur, near here, is on in full swing. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 6 crore half of which ha been contributed by devotees—local and otherwise. The renovation committee expects to see more donations from the NRI devotees.
The renovation committee, for two years, toured many temples all over the country to study their architecture before embarking on renovations, said K L Kundantaya, president, renovation committee, at a press conference held on Friday November 21.
The temple is located on the boundary of Yellur and is a centre of worship for the nine neighbouring villages of Yellur, Belapu, Kunjoor, Kutyar, Maniyoor, Nandikoor, Adve, Santoor, and Padoor. The village committees formed for the purpose are extending all possible support. The marble flooring is set to be ready in time for the ‘Brahmakalashabishek’ to commence on March 4 to March 12, next year.
The interiors of temple are being renovated without disturbing the original structure.
Renovation committee secretary Prafulla Shetty, chief secretary Kutyar Prasad Shetty, vice-president Arunakar Shetty, treasurer Gururaj Manjittaya, temple manager Raghavendra Rao, and committee members Srinivas Bhandary and Srinivas Tonittaya, were amongst those present at the press conference.
