Sullia, Jun 30: Minister for higher education D H Shankaramurthy has expressed his concern over the decrease in the number of students taking up courses in humanities.

He was speaking a programme held at KSS Degree College, Subramanya here on Friday June 29.

As a measure to make humanities more popular among students, Shankaramurthy urged the colleges to lay more stress on communicative English as the course is relevant to those who pursue education in technical subjects.

He further said that plans are on the anvil to introduce job-oriented technical courses in colleges aimed at non-engineering students.

He also hinted at the cancellation of some courses which are not in much demand and assured that teachers who teach those courses will be accommodated elsewhere.

Among those present was College principal G Dinesh Kumar.
