Mangaluru: KNS celebrates anniversary, ‘Kon Aaplo’ drama staged

Mangaluru, Oct 5: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) Mangaluru held its 72nd day anniversary celebrations and staged ‘Kon Aaplo’ Konkani drama written and directed by John M Permannur on Sunday, October 4.

The celebratory function started with the KNS anthem 'Raakh Deva Konkni natak sabha'.  Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza the president of KNS, Prem Lobo the vice president, Sunil Menezes the secretary, Gerald Concessao the treasurer and Judy D’Souza the joint secretary of KNS with Edwin J F D’Souza the chief guest were present on the dais.
























































Veteran actors Vincent Dias, Rita Fernandes and Dolla Mangalur were felicitated with Austin D’Souza Prabhu award, Norbert Corda award and James Mendonca award respectively. These newly constituted awards named after the sponsors will continue from this year. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and citation. Vincent Dias spoke on behalf of the recipients of awards.

Edwin J F D’Souza thanked KNS for staging hundreds dramas for the past 72 years. He remembered that the first Konkani novel of Mangaluru ‘Angel’ written by Jo Sa Alvares was published by Konkani Natak Sabha and not by any mainstream publisher.

Fr Cyprian D’Souza thanked all the donors, spectators and well wishers of KNS. He said the mission of Jesus Christ through drama will continue. He paid tribute to St Francis of Assisi whose feast falls on October 4 on the occasion. A surprise felicitation was waiting for Fr Cyprian D’Souza who completed 50 years recently.

Sunil Menezes presented the report for the previous year. Prem Lobo welcomed. Judy D’Souza proposed vote of thanks. Floyd D’Mello compered the programme.

Philanthropists Michael D’Souza from Dubai, Norbert Corda from Doha Qatar and Walter Nandalike the founder and editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Media were present.

‘Kon Aaplo’ drama was staged after the celebratory function. The drama was written and directed by John M Permannur. Clita Noronha, Alwyn Miranda, Usha Fernandes, John M Permannur, Martin D’Souza, Vinolyn D’Souza, Nelvita Noronha and Navin Kulshekar acted in the drama. Ashwin Cutinho and Prabhu Gurpur had composed sequence music for the drama. Stage setting was done by Steven Fernandes Ruzai and Chris electronics provided lights and sounds.

    Congrats Mr. John and KNS on successfully staging Kon Aapplo. Hope to see a lot more dramas in Mangaluru especially with the youth taking part.

    Competitions between parishes in drama, like in the past will bring youngsters into acting and will strengthen their confidence.

    KONKANI natak Sabah got history. This organisation moulded so many KONKANI theater artists. Really it is doing lot of cultural activities under the leadership of Fr Cyprian I know him personally as he is from permude which is my neighborhood church. He visited my place in haji Hasan compound and blessed my family. Really great father and wishing you and your able team for your future endeavours.

    Well done and great job, remains me my young days of life when I used to sing and acting Chruch drama,best wishes to Fr Dsouza who came to house in Amwaj had a nice time with him ,Best wishes to Sunil, Prem and Raymond Monteiro,
