Suranjoy Returns to Action after Four-month Break

New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) Fit-again after what turned out to be an emotionally life-altering four-month break, Suranjoy Singh heads to Cuba tomorrow for a training-cum-competition trip, spearheading the Indian boxing challenge in the absence of other stars such as Vijender Singh.

The 25-year-old, who won seven straight international gold medals between 2009 and 2010 before his streak ended with a bronze in the Asian Games, has had a tumultuous four months on the personal front.

Suranjoy lost his mother in December.

His mother was battling cancer and was critical when he left for the Asian Games in November. So much so that Suranjoy thought of giving the event a miss to be by her side.

She coaxed him into going to China where he settled for a bronze medal after seven straight international gold medals.
