Mangaluru: Sexual harassment of minor girl - Convict gets 3-year jail term

Mangaluru, Mar 1: A city court has sentenced an accused to three years of simple imprisonment on charges of sexually harassing a minor girl.

The accused Abdul Hameeda (50) alias Hameeda is the convict. On June 3, 2021, he had forcibly entered the house of his neighbour when the girl was alone and harassed her sexually. He also warned her against complaining about him.

A case was registered in this connection in Bajpe police station. Inspector Raghavendra conducted the investigation and submitted a chargesheet to the court.

The trial was conducted by the Mangaluru Additional Sessions Court and AFTSC (Pocso) court by the judge Manjula Itti who delivered the judgement.

The convict Abdul Hameeda was sentenced to three years of simple imprisonment under the Pocso Act Section 8 (3) along with a fine of Rs 5,000 and six months of imprisonment under the Indian Penal Code Section 448 (6), one year of imprisonment under Section 354 and a fine of Rs 1,000, six months of imprisonment under Section 323 and a fine of Rs 1,000, one year imprisonment under Section 506 (1) and a fine of Rs 1,000. Besides, the court also ordered that the girl be paid Rs 1 lac as compensation. Sahana Devi argued for the case as a public prosecutor.
