Mangaluru, Mar 3: S Mahesh, village accountant of Sullia was sentenced to four years in prison and fined Rs 70000 for demanding bribe from approving the Akrama-Sakrama application of Gopalakrishna, resident of Mandekolu of Sullia.
Mahesh was caught red handed by ACB police of Mangaluru, while receiving Rs 45000 in advance as bribe from applicant Gopalakrishna on June 7, 2016.
The inquiry was conducted by justice B B Jakati of third additional and sessions court of the city and Mahesh was found guilty. If Mahesh fails to pay the fine, he needs to undergo further eight months of imprisonment.
Special public prosecutor of Karnataka Lokayukta Ravindra Munnippadi argued for the prosecution.
