Rains lash parts of Karkala, Beltangady, Moodbidri; cause damage, electricity supply affected

Karkala/Beltangady/Moodbidri, Apr 11: Various parts of Karkala taluk received heavy rains with thunder and lightning on Monday evening. Heavy winds blew in rural parts like Hosmaru, Mala, Bajagoli and Eedu. Town area received moderate rain.

Residents of rural areas panicked due to the heavy winds. As the trees fell on electricity supply wires, the power supply was disrupted. Mescom personnel cleared branches of trees that were hanging from the wires.

Parts of cowshed and house of Shankara Poojary of Karjibailu of Hermunde village were damaged due to heavy wind. The cement sheet roof is completely damaged. The loss is estimated at Rs 20000.

Miyaru, Kuntibailu, Jodukatte, Karvashe, Shirlalu, Ajekaru, Mutluppadi, Hermunde, Jarkala, Mundli, Durga, Malebettu, Kadambala, Mudaru, Bailooru, Guddeangadi, Neere, Kanajaru, Kukkundooru, Nakre, Parappu and Jogulabettu also received heavy rains.

This is the second rain in Karkala within three days. The weather is cooler now. Agriculturists were happy as the rains gave them enough water for arecanut farms.

In Beltangady light rain showered at Naravi, Mundaje and other areas. Two days ago the taluk experienced rain with hailstones. A huge tree fell on the national highway near Halekote. As no one was there, no damage was done. The tree was cleared by forest department personnel and locals.

Rains accompanied by heavy winds showered under the limits of Nellikaru gram panchayat on Monday. Coconut tree fell on the house of Amarendra Jain. The loss is estimated to be Rs two lac.
