Udupi: Court convicts ganja accused to 5 years of RI, slaps Rs 50,000 fine

Udupi, Apr 12: The Udupi District and Sessions Court has sentenced Vinod Ram Sevak of Maharashtra to five years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 in a ganja related case.

The judgment was pronounced by judge Shantaveera Shivappa on Tuesday, April 11.

In 2019, under the direction of the then SP Nisha James and the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Kumarachandra, on definite information the DCIB unit of police under inspector C Kiran had raided a place near a lodge and taken the accused into custody. Ten kilos and 600 grams of ganja was seized along with other items were seized from the accused and handed over to the CEN police.

The CEN police inspector Seetharama P registered a case on March 3, 2020 and submitted a chargesheet to the court.

Shantibai and Jayarama Shetty argued the case in favour of the government.
