Udupi, Apr 19: District additional and sessions court (FTSC Pocso court) sentenced the accused, who sexually harassed a minor girl, two years ago, to 20 years imprisonment.

Sahil (23), is the accused who is convicted by the court. The victim, native of Byndoor police station limits, is residing at Sagar as her father owns a hotel there. Accused was working in a shop near the hotel of the victim’s father. The accused expressed his love to the minor girl.

In July, 2021, the victim girl had come to her native place Byndoor. On her birthday, the accused arrived from Sagar and took her to a deserted place near her house and had physical union with her on the promise of getting married. Later, the accused had physical union many times with the minor girl promising her that he will get married to her.

When the victim’s mother came to know about the matter, she filed a complaint at Byndoor police station. The then police inspector Santhosh a Kaykini had filed a chargesheet against the accused.

Srinivas Suvarna, who considered the circumstantial evidence pronounced the accused as guilty and sentenced him to 20 years of RI and slapped a fine of Rs 22500. In addition, the court has ordered the government to provide Rs 1.5 lac compensation to the victim girl.

Special public prosecutor Y T Raghavendra argued for the prosecution.
