Kundapur, April 20: “The Kerala model outdoor ports first stage work is incomplete. The second stage work has not yet begun even after two years of getting approval. If we do not receive suitable compensation and assurance before the upcoming Assembly elections, we will be holding protests and will not participate in the elections,” said Maravanthe Meenugarara Seva Samithi president K Vasudev Kharvi.

Speaking at a news conference held at Maravanthe out port he said that more than 10,000 people depended on Maranthe port. “The government does not allow them to work for a living. The belongings of the fishermen are likely to be washed away in the sea due to the incomplete work. The out port constructed so far is likely to be drowned if the second stage of work is not started before the monsoon,” he said.

“The governments, elected representatives and officials have remained indifferent towards the port work. We will be deciding not to take part in the elections condemning the neglect by the government,” he said.

Maravanthe Meenugarara Seva Samithi former president Chandra Kharvi said that the government has provided only 360 litres of kerosene even after eight months of starting fishing.    

The chief minister, union and state ministers visited the district and received complaints of grievances. But it was futile, he said.
