Udupi, Apr 24: The lifeguard team of Malpe beach rescued two youths, who were about to drown in the sea on Sunday afternoon.

Hiresh (25) and Varshad (27), natives of Shivamogga district, are the youths who were rescued. The incident occurred around 2 pm on Sunday. As the life guards saw the duo drowning, they went to the spot on watercraft and brought both to the shore.

Thousands of people gathered on the beach for the weekend. From the afternoon of Saturday the waves of the sea turned violent and almost all the water sport activities were stopped. On Sunday also, the sea which was calm in the morning turned violent from noon and water sports were called off at 3 pm.

Lifeguards were repeatedly asking the tourists not to get down into the sea as the pressure of water increased due to heavy winds.
