Kasargod: Convention on environment protection held

Kasargod, Apr 26: Canara Organization for Development and Peace (CODP), Mangaluru, Spandana Mahila Okkuta Kumble and St Monica Church Kumble organized a convention about protection of environment at St Monica School auditorium here on April 25.

MP Raj Mohan Unnithan inaugurated the programme. He said that the future generation will have to bear disastrous consequences if environment is not protected. “The work done by CODP in this connection is commendable,” he said.

St Monica church parish priest Anil Prakash D’ Souza presided over the programme. CODP director Fr Vincent D’ Souza welcomed and gave a keynote address.

Manjeshwar block panchayat president Samina teacher, Kumble gram panchayat president Tahira Yousuf, Kumble panchayat member Vivekanand Shetty, St Monica church vice president of parish pastoral council Raju Stephan D’ Souza, secretary Lidia D’ Souza, Spandana Okkuta secretary Lakshmi, CODP’s Peter Paul and others were present.

Harischandra Saya, Albert Saya, Antony D’ Souza Shantipalla, Pushpalatha Bedrampalla, Rayana Padi, Lakshmi Salethadka, Flora Crasta, Radhika Surambail and Shalini Kannur were felicitated for their work on agriculture, dairy farming and water conservation.

CODP director Fr Vincent D’ Souza felicitated St Monica church parish priest Anil Prakash D’ Souza for having completed 18 years after his ordination.

Environmentalist Anand Pekkad gave details about environment protection after the hall programme. Manjeshwar block panchayat president Samina teacher inaugurated the environment friendly seat.

Fruit saplings were planted. Various units had put up stalls of food and delicacies prepared by them. Spandana Mahila Okkuta president Jayashree Monteiro rendered a vote of thanks. Ravikumar Crasta and Vijay D’ Souza compered the programme.
