Mangalore, Jul 22:
A delegation led by Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza met city police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh at his office on Friday July 22 to urge speedy withdrawal of cases against Christians in connection with the 2008 church attacks.

The delegation comprised Fr Thomas D'Silva, Fr J B Crasta, Fr Onil D'Souza, Sushil Noronha, Sr Michelle, Sr Asunta, Ivan D'Souza among others.

Lamenting that the state government has still not withdrawn the cases against Christians as had been promised, the bishop said that the highest number of cases registered during the attacks had been in Mangalore city police limits. Already, police have prepared the final reports in 35 cases while 18 have been closed, he said.

But, from in the last 15 days, accused in 12 cases have been issued summons, he said, adding, "On Thursday July 21, 29 accused in those 12 cases appeared before the JMFC court. Moreover, another 28 have been summoned to appear in court on July 23. It is clear that even after assurances from chief minister Yeddyurappa, home minister R Ashok, V S Acharya, Dhananjay Kumar and Ganesh Karnik that all the cases would be withdrawn, nothing has been done yet. No decision has yet been taken in the cabinet meeting either in this regard."

Later, speaking to media persons, the bishop said that it has been four months now since the CM called a meeting of all bishops and assured that the cases would be withdrawn.

A visibly disapppointed bishop told mediapersons, "We came today again shamelessly like beggars. Our promises to the people will have no value if steps are not taken, and we will lose respect in their eyes. The issue has also caused problems to youth who aspire to go abroad for employment."

When asked about their future course of action, he said this was the last time the delegation was meeting the police commissioner. "Seemanth Kumar said that he has collected all data and will forward it to the DG's office. We trust him," the bishop said.

    The Government of Karnataka is
playing a very tricky and deceptive
    game by prolonging the release
of the Christians who are legally
    entangled in the Church attack
    cases. If these people were
    caught for other non-Church related
    crimes, the readers can understand
    the very slow moving
legal system and piled up cases
in the courts. But, this case
is entirely different. The Churches were attacked by the
    anti-Christian elements of the
society by the indirect moral support of the current Government, and the Christian young
people were forced to take their
stand to defend. As stated a few
days back that this matter will
be disolved within two weeks, the
Government of Karnataka has a moral
    responsibilty and obligation to
    keep the promise intact. Indeed,
    this political vendetta undertaken
by the Government of Karnataka has
gone too far in solving it peacefully.

Combined effort of the community can save these youth from further trouble from the law enforcement department. These youth have no criminal background and lived a respectable life in the past. More over, government of Karnataka home minister has promised to withdraw the cases against them. It was unfortunate that such an incident happened in a calm and quiet atmosphere of Mangalore city limits showing the existance of evil. Instead of lamenting over the episode, let us pray to God the almighty to enlighten the minds of people who create such miserable atmosphere. It is written in scriptures pray and you get knock and the door will open for you. Trust in the almighty God is the requirement of the moment. We should be thankful to our religious leaders and laymen for their concern towards the helpless and needy.

It is sad state of affair. Innocent young people have been forcedto become criminals by forcing them climb the portals of Judiciay for no fault of theirs. These youth were caught and charged unneccearily . May the government see wisdom and withdraw cases immediately by showing humanity. There should no difficulty to release them as they not have any past history of crime.

When the Mangalore police commissioner is already acted upon the directions of the Home Ministry, by sending the case files on the victims of Church Attack, I feel it is too late for the Bishop of Mangalore to approach to the police commissioner, that to at the behest of Ivan D’ Souza (as it appears to be) with out any sincerity but only to take credit of others sincere efforts.
When we have already read from the earlier reports of Daijiworld, following the approach of IFKCA at top levels of the Government that the case files have already reached the DGP office Bangalore and have further process there from what was the need for the present delegation to meet Mangalore Police Commissioner.
Why the same delegation including bishop did not act upon on the Lancy Praveen was arrested on false case of conversion on July 1st 2011. Lancy underwent 7 days in jail and one day in Uppinangadi police station as he has been charged with section 295 (a) for conversion.

Your Yeddy and Achary are playing this game so that no christian will protest when they are attacked!! Your dirty idols are enjoying holidays by blind religion based support of you guys. Remember to take the blame on a day for squeesing lemon on milk....everything is totally communalised since your masters got votes and power fooling people in the guise of religion. Shame is still a respectable word for the crime culminated by your masters...!!! The church attacks were the gravest blunder and a sacrilege committed by the bjp and its associates in the History of Karnataka from the order of Mr. Yeddyurappa and Mr. Acharya to the South Kanara district administration for throwing law into the hands of mindlessness communal people.
We Christians can forgive, God will see the truth but waits.

I quote your comment KASAB , KILLER OF 270 INNOCENT PEOPLE ENJOYING WITH KABAB UNDER THE ITALIAN LED UPA.

ATTACK ON INNOCENT WOMEN & CHILDRENS AT MIDNIGHT DURING DEEP SLEEP UNDER THE ITALIAN LED UPA.

NOW EACH & EVERYONE MADE IT AS PRECEDENT THAT ALL CULPRITS/ANTINATONALS SHOULD BE RELEASED . Unquote.

What is the connection to kasab and Kabab and Italian born Indian citizen to the matter of church attacks? Do you mean Kasab and Sonia Gandhiji carried out church attacks?
If that is the case you must be well aware of perhaps Justice Somashekar mentioned in the manipulated report. Right or wrong? Kindly explain.

Did not the police mercilessly beaten the nuns and women during the protest day by the Christians?
In your opinion I perceive that the church attackers were anti-nationals and nobody can deny that fact.

Common Mr. Nagesh Nayak, don't poison the minds of the citizens. Eliminate evil thoughts from your mind and be a good person.

but once again arch bishop indirectly goes in wrong way and trying to make the issue as political by joining hand with useless politician ..whos aim only to firm catholic votes for his party..

The issue of church attacks by hooligans has much to do with politics rather than religion and therefore it has to be tackled politically.

Those who are implicated in the cases should learn the lesson. Leaders are only instigating to their followers and they do not land on street. It is very difficult to withdraw cases. There is lot of legal procedure. There should be Govt. resolution published in the official gazeette. Then only director of prosecution and legal dept. will act on the subject.

There are people for the sake of publicity to meet Police Commissioner. He can act only instructions from higher authorities. From this incidence people should learn a lesseson. Some are taking the political advantage in this matter.

Praying is nothing but begging. Those who are praying they never do the hardship. They live with some body's earnings. Do not go for lawyer who is not taking fee. If any leader from the mutt approached the CM, then all victims would have been released within no time.Mere harressing our Christian leaders has become a passtime for BJP Leaders. Our CM has to take note that after the chruch attacks, the curse of the christian community is so strong that, after this episode none of his days were peaceful.

One after the other trouble haunts the CM after the church attacks.A humble apology to the community and release of innocent victims if done at an earlier stage by the CM, he would have been a gentleman and won back the support of christian community.

The efforts of our dear Bishop of Mangalore to our community is laudable and we stand by you for each of your actions. Dear Bishop we wish you good luck and hope that your efforts dont go in vain.Although we understand it is difficult to convince these leaders from BJP, let us not leave any stone unturned and try our best to release the soldiers of christian community who faught to the last like our martyers to save our community.

"We came today again shamelessly like beggars. Our promises to the people will have no value if steps are not taken" - If Bishop has given such statement on his persoanl capacity I dont have any objection. But he has given this statement as community religious head, I strongly oppose it.Christian community is a community of self respect and pride. By saying such statement the respect of the community has been brought down.

It is wrong to expect that Govt should respond to the requests from Bishop just because he is our religious leader. We need more social and politically elected leaders to come out and fight for the cause of justice.

Why priests and nuns are seen in more numbers in all our stage programes than lay leaders? And now this type of behavior is being seen in this kind of delegations also. There should have been the parish Vice Presidents of Permannur, Kulshekar, Permude, Milagres parishes as most of the cases are on the youth of these parishes.

The delegation led by Bishop does not carry any weight. There is no catholic sabha president or Diocesen Pastrol Council Secretary. Further both political leaders amongst in the team (Ivan & Susheel) have never won any Elections till today. There are personalities like Judith Mascarenhas, Hilda Alva, Lancelot Pinto who were the former Mayors of Mangalore and also the ZP members like Melwyn, former ZP Vice President Shalet Pinto etc who always carry better weitage in our democratic set up and they should have included in frontline in such delegations.

I personally feel that this delegation has a kind of sensation that the cases are to be withdrawn soon after Colaco's meeting with Home Minister, and can it not be understood as an effort to grab credit??? politics me sab kuch chalta hai na....Police Commisioner is not the appropriate authority to attend such matters. In contemporary India one need not work hard but need to work smart. A smart lawyer if paid well could have settled all youth cases long ago. In these matters bishop need not has to go like a beggar to the commissioner.

Secondly bishop must show leadership by bringing together influential community leaders. Absence of Mr. Colaco speaks volumes about what is happening in Mangalorean Catholic community. For a better and safe future community must go along with what Flavia is suggesting: having a political group to involve actively in vote bank politics that will have miraculous results in solving cases in socio-political arena.

All must contribute financially for such a group by cutting some amount from what has been presently contributed to the Church.

Dear Bishop, your concern is appreciable. But your statement "we will loose respect in their eyes" gives a negative meaning, and makes all to understand that you are more bothered about your self respect than the actual cause. We know you are not like that kind of person. But still todays media can draw wrong meanings always....
I think this is a follow up action after MR.Ronald Colaco s meeting(three days ago) with Home Minister. I request our Bishop to meet Chief Minister soon along with Mr. Colaco which may give quick results. We must do everything possible to help our boys. Thank You Bishop. Thank you Mr.Ronald Colaco

Police Commissioner "Seemanth Kumar said that he has collected all data and will forward it to the DG's office. We trust him," the bishop said. Can we really trust the Indian Police be it a commisioner or a DIG or just an ordinary cop/police man just weilding a lathi? Almigjty God help us!

    People,

If State Government does not withdraw these false cases,,, defeat them in next elections,,, and new Government will withdraw these cases in matter of days......

No need to meet anybody again, be it Acharya, Ashok, Yeddy or anybody....

Thay will know the pain after election,,, which now they want to inflict on church attack protesters.....

Very much disapointed by the Governments assurances. It looks like a lip service to please the Christians by the Government.

I am personally happy for Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, this type of leadership will help to build our unity in our community. We need to put more pressure on the State Govt. When cabinet can withdraw case against reddy's why not this case!!!

Very appropriate and timely move on the part of Bishop Aloysius to approach the Police Commissioner with some of the pending issues. Patience is always a virtue, and the virtue of Christianity with continued patience added with the virtue of charity, love and forgiveness must continue.

India has been gifted with the spirit of tolerance, and a population of more than 30 million Christians in secular India has a great deal of patriotism to offer to all the leaders of Mother India that justice must prevail at all times in our great country where we proudly boast the virtues of Mahatma Gandhi.
