Mangalore, Jul 23: 'Singham', the latest masala blockbuster by Rohit Shetty is doing quite well around the country with an estimated Rs 30 crore box office collection during the weekend. No doubt, lead role Ajay Devgn has done a fantastic job, perhaps, one of the best in his career, and has received praise from all around, specially his fans.
But one character, though in a negative role has won the hearts of Bollywood fans.
46-year-old Prakash Rai, who changed his surname to 'Raj' when he made his entry in to Tollywood has done full justice to his role in Singham, and proved why he has been conferred national awards several times. Prakash Raj, who can act both as the lead role as well as play a key negative role hails from Puttur and is the proud son of Karnataka. Unfortunately, the same Prakash Raj is now in the eye of a storm with 'Kannada Activists' around Karnataka targetting him for making derogatory remarks in the movie.
Prakash Raj, who truly surpassed expectations in his 'Jayakant Shikre' role has done a perfect job in his portrayal of an 'extortionist', a 'poltician'and also a 'comedian'. All three characters have been splendidly blended into one and delivered beautifully by him. His expressions, especially in his eyes, his dialogue delivery, and body language have made him one of the finest villains in the film industry, be it Bollywood, Tollywood or Sandalwood.
For the people in South Kanara, the coastal region of Karnataka, it is an important movie because of the involvement of Rohit Shetty as director, Prakash Raj as the main villain and the Tulu used in the movie.
The sore point remains the 'derogatory' remark against Kannadigas. However, the screenings of the movie in multiplexes and single screens have resumed thanks to the quick action by the state Film Chamber of Commerce in muting the offensive dialogue.
When all are writing about Ajay Devgn's performance in Singham, it must be noted that Prakash Raj who has infused life into his role and given it his best deserves much more than ordinary compliments.
