Mangalore, Sep 22: M N Rajendra Kumar was re-elected for the eighth consecutive term, as the president of South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank at the governing council meeting held here on Wednesday September 21. Vinay Kumar Soorinje was also re-elected as the bank’s vice-president.

Director of the bank, Niranjan, acted as returning officer for the election. Rajendra Kumar, who got elected as the president of the bank in 1994 for the first time, has been getting re-elected every time thereafter for the last 17 years. He also gets credit for being at the helm of the bank for the second longest tenure after the late Molahalli Shivarao. When he took over as president for the first time, the total deposits of the bank stood at Rs 64 crore, which have since gone up to Rs 1,092 crore. The advances and net profit, which were at Rs 46 crore and Rs 40 lac respectively then, have also spiralled to Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 11.70 crore respectively.

Rajendra Kumar had also functioned as the chairman of Karnataka State Cooperative Apex Bank between 2005 and 2010. He continues to be a director of that bank. Kumar also has been a director of various cooperative institutions including Navodaya Sauharda Cooperative Ltd.
