Udupi, Sep 23: Under the aegis of Lanco Foundation, Udupi Power Corporation limited (UPCL), and Belapu gram panchayat, a free eye camp was held at the gram panchayat auditorium here on Thursday September 22.
 
Belapu gram panchayat president Deviprasad Shetty, after inaugurating the camp, said that eye sight is precious and it’s the duty of everyone to take good care of their eyes. He also urged the locals to take advantage of the services that are provided by Lanco Foundation in this regard.


 

Eye surgeon Dr Bhavanishankar said that treatment and spectacles will be provided to the needy at the expense of Lanco Foundation.  Those who need cataract surgery can get it performed for free at Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore on Saturday September 24.
 
YPCL senior project manager Sudarshan Prasad said that the Lanco Foundation has been engaged in social welfare activities such as granting scholarships to talented poor students, free limbs for the physically handicapped, mobile health services, and drinking water supply.  He also assured provision of transport facility for those people are referred to undergo cataract surgery at Wenlock Hospital.
 
Belapu gram panchayat vice-president Niranjan Shetty presided over the programme.
 
Two hundred and eight people have attended the eye camp and spectacles were distributed to 137 people while 10 people have been referred for surgery to Wenlock Hospital.
 
Wenlock Hospital eye surgeon Dr Rajesh Nayak, Belapu gram panchayat member Prakash, UPCL head of department of HRD Nagaraj, Muralidar, A Arun and M Kamat of Lanco Foundation, and Dr M V Bhat were present on the dais.
 
Sudhir A K welcomed the gathering.  Vishwanat M B compered the programme.
