Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwall (SP)

Bantwal, Sep 24: In an incident that occurred at Kula-Kallandadka village in the taluk at around midnight on Friday September 23, a woman and her son embraced death by setting fire on themselves. Bhavani (60), and her son, Krishna (35), lost their lives in this way. Some believe that the son, after torching his mother, set himself on fire.

The two were living in a rented house in the village, which falls within the jurisdiction of Vittal police station. They used to work in the stone quarry there as labourers. It is suspected that they immolated themselves after midnight on Friday, duly locking the doors of the house from inside. Some items in the house and roof of the house also suffered extensive damages because of fire.

On a complaint made by the owner of the rented house, policemen belonging to Vittal station reached the spot at 2 am on Saturday and found the bodies which were charred beyond recognition. As there are no houses in the vicinity, the incident did not attract the attention of anyone immediately, it is said.

Reasons for this strange act are unknown. The bodies were carried to the government hospital here for post mortem.
