Moodbidri: Alva's Nudisiri off to a Grand Start

Moodbidri, Nov 11: The eighth edition of the three-day 'Alva's Nudusiri', based on the theme 'Kannada Manassu, Sangharsha, Samarasya' was inaugurated amidst much fanfare here on Friday November 11 at 10 am, by senior litterateur Dr Baragooru Ramachandrappa.
Earlier, senior research scholar Nadoja Dr M M Kaluburgi, president of the programme and inaugurator Dr Baragooru Ramachandrappa were taken in a grand cultural procession till Rathnakaravarni Vedike of Pandith Bheemsen Joshi hall in Vidyagiri here.
Dr Ramachandrappa inaugurated the programme in a traditional manner by pouring milk into the paddy sheaves and by lighting the lamp. Later, in his address he said that sadly, Kannada is in the hands of a few people who have power and money, while those who are genuinely concerned about culture and education are pushed to the background. This is a real challenge, he said, which needs to be countered with concerted efforts.
Kannadigas have never close the doors on anyone, never neglect women empowerment, and never look down upon the lower class. "But in the name of globalization, customs, tradition and the language of Kannada land should not be affected," he said.
The specialty of Kannada language is that it is a symbol of harmony as there are many local languages in the state, and Kannada has united them, he pointed out.
President of the programme Dr M M Kaluburgi said that culture is always a mixture of many aspects. "Foreign culture should be complementary to our own culture and not a threat. If it creates problems in our culture then there's a clash. When this happens, the sustainability of our culture, tradition and language depends upon its strength," he noted.
Alva’s Education Trust chairman Dr M Mohan Alva welcomed and delivered the keynote address. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Anand Alva, Jayashree Amarnath Shetty and others were present.
