Mangalore, Nov 16: Mangalore city police launched an anti-drug awareness campaign at MG Road on the evening of Tuesday November 15, in association with students of SDM College and Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL).

Students from different colleges joined the cause by walking for about a mile with lit candles in their hands to create awareness among the youth. They also held up placards denouncing the use of drugs.

The intention behind these little steps is to make a lasting impact on people about the addiction a person might face. “It is reported that many Mangaloreans have fallen prey to drug abuse and hence this campaign is timely and significant,” said a partcipant. Others hoped that the menace of drug addiction would stop completely.

“The only motive behind the anti-drug awareness campaign is to make Mangalore a drug free city,” said a police officer-in-charge.

The programme was initiated by Siddeshwar, sub-inspector of Barke police station.
Of late, several instances of drug abuse have cropped in the city. The march was organised by the police department to eradicate the evil of drug addiction from college campuses and create awareness among the youth.

A signature campaign was also held on the occasion.

Among those who took part in the march were executive director of Centre for Integrated Learning Sachitha Nandagopal, principal of SDM BBM College, Dr K Devaraj and others.

They don't look like they are out on raising awareness on a serious issue of drugs and their consequences. They are all having a good time and fun and seem directionless. Come on guys please understand what you are opposing and what is your motive in coming out in group like this.
