The train will halt at Kasargod, Kanhangad, Payyanur, Kannur, Thalassery, Khallikote(calicut), Tirur, Shoranur and Ottapalam.

Addressing the gathering he said that Shiradi Ghat stretch is in a complete dilapidated condition and that a discussion has been held with Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes in this regard. "A proposal has been placed before the central government to concrete the entire stretch," he added.

"After the UPA government came to power, Mangalore city got 10 new trains, apart from five trains that were extended and another three trains that commute once or twice in a week were introduced," he said, and sought the support of the state government in all the railway development works. "By 2020, 23,000 new railway routes will be constructed; already there are 63,000 train routes across the nation," he said.

About Netravati second bridge he said it is a Rs 50-crore project and will be completed in another two months. Mangalore city-Panambur road widening project costing Rs 150 cr will be completed soon. On Bangalore-Karwar train, he said that the train will halt at Kundapur station from around November 20 and efforts will be made for a halt at Suratkal.

"Oscar Fernandes has suggested starting a train from Mangalore to Kundapur. Mangalore-Shravanabelagola train will operate soon. More trains between Mangalore-Mumbai will begin in the days to come," he said, and added that within two months a stakeholders' meeting will be convened to upgrade the Mangalore central railway station to international standards.

The city currently has two Jana Sadharana Ticket Booking Seva Counters for availing unreserved tickets, and two more will be coming up soon, he said. A new building will constructed at the cost of Rs 1.5 cr wherein a reservation counter will also be opened, he assured.

Mayor Praveen, presided over the programme.

Deputy speaker Yogish Bhat was the guest of honour. S K Raina, DRM, Southern Railway Palakkad and J N Jaganath, additional general manager, Chennai, Denis D’Silva and P V Mohan of Congress among others were also present.

    Thanks to Yeddyrappaji, for resiging
thanks to DVS for his negative smiles. Now real development is going on in KarNataka. Muniyappa is the only central minister from the state who is doing his best for the state. All other minister are good for condemning others but they does nothing. Hats off to Muniyappa. Thanks to Oscar for his concern so late. Kundapura to Mangalore local train is the need of the hour. Good thinking. All developmental work in Karnataka is from Central govt. State govt only burning fatakari no action, despite absolute majority infighting never ends. But every BJP MLA is bothored only about own developments.

We need separate Mangalore Division and to be merged with South-Western Railway, Hubli. The Night Train of Mangalore-Bangalore is to be extended up to Goa, which is more beneficial to the people of Karnataka. Konkan Railway should provide all facilities at Karwar Railway Station.

What Muniappa thinks? Coastal Karnataka people are bakhras? Instead of starting Mangalore-Kundapur train, he flagged off train only for mallus. It seems he hit double jackpot. One hand he buttered with mallu lobby, other hand with coastal transport lobby.

I think the railway minister has also become a mallu now. I being a manglorean and kannadiga feel shame to attend such function which is favouring mallus, don't you feel same congress and other party leaders. Please get the basic right. we need trains between mangalore and bangalore and mumbai. we need development of mangalore railway station. it should be mangalore station not mallu station. can our ministers dare to do it.

Good to see one more train added to Mangalore...but surprising thing is that they don't have enough platforms for trains originating in Mangalore and bound to Bangalore or Mumbai they have to start from Mangalore junction...but they have enough platforms for Kerala bound trains !

Lot of local congress leaders were showing their teeth for no reason. It is a Govt of India function keep your party workers out of it

    Muniyappa,

What about a night train between Bangalore and Karwar? Every budget there will be atleast a single train connecting to Kerala to Mangalore. When you people provide good railway connectivity within the state?

Not that I mean to be racist or anything, but these trains are not serving the purpose of the local population, but those from Kerala.
We need trains from Mangalore to Udupi, Surathkal, Puttur, Karwar, Bangalore, Mysore, and the rest of the state.
Irrespective of the party in power at the State Govt. level, they will never encourage an increase in the frequency of trains from Bangalore to Mangalore because KSRTC would go under losses.
