Srinivas University Institute of Engineering organises Techno Week 2024

Mangaluru, Sep 26: Techno Week 2024 programme as part of National Engineers Day was organised by Srinivas University Institute of Engineering & Technology, SUIET, Mukka, in association with the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) Mangaluru Centre.

Chief guest of the programme, renowned civil engineering expert and retired principal of Bantwal Government Polytechnic College Dr Chinnagiri Gowda inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy, vice-chancellor of Srinivas University presided over the programme.

Dr Ramakrishna N Hegde (dean of SUIET Mukka), Dr B M Praveen Kumar (director - research, Srinivas University), Prof Shrinath Rao K (coordinator of Techno Week programme) and Er U Nitin (member of association of consulting civil engineers India, Mangaluru Centre) were present on the dais.

In his Address, dean of the Institution, Dr Ramakrishna N Hegde said that only 8% of the graduates are able to do something new and innovative, and the rest of the 92% of the engineering students are not aware of what to do after their graduation. Dr Ramakrishna Hegde said that there is a lot of scope for innovation, and there is scarcity for mechanical, civil and electrical engineers in the country. "Hard work is the mantra for success. Hence, we should inculcate the message and principles of Bharat Ratna, Sir M Vishveshwarayya in our life," he said. Dr Ramakrishna Hegde advised the students to be disciplined in their life and come out of the ego which will lead them to success.

Chief guest and resource person, Dr Chinnagiri Gowda delivered a talk on the topic "Engineer's Role in Nation Building". Dr Chinnagiri Gowda said that in addition to theoretical knowledge it is very important to upgrade practical knowledge. Dr Chinnagiri Gowda urged the engineering students to contribute to the society and hence in nation building.

Dr Chinnagiri Gowda said there is good scope for civil engineers in the country. "Engineering is the combination of resources, technology, safety management and comforts. Protecting the ancient and heritage structures is the need of the hour," he said.

Dr Chinnagiri Gowda said that engineers make a very good impact on the socio-economic development of the nation. Hence, protecting the environment, water resources, forest, fuel, and food will help in saving the country.

In his presidential remarks, vice-chancellor of the University, Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy said that engineers should be creative, engineers should analyse the problem and should find the optimum solution for the problem. By quoting the example of the titanic ship tragedy, Dr Satyanarayana Reddy advised the students to make a stable design, and test the design against all possibilities and to check the strength of that design before it is put into place.

Convenor of the programme, Prof Shrinath Rao K introduced the chief guest and delivered the welcome address.
President of civil engineering student’s association - SRISTICA, Varun Madhyastha delivered the vote of thanks.
Aparna Dev performed the invocation.

Prof Rohan Fernandes steered the programme as master of ceremony.

HODs, faculty members, SRISTICA vice-president Rahul Rajesh Rai, secretary Ratan Ramesh Puthran, office-bearers Akash M S, Karthika and engineering students from other departments were present on this occasion.
