Bengaluru, Feb 26: In response to recent speculations about leadership dynamics within the Karnataka Congress, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized his unwavering commitment to the party's mission and dismissed rumors regarding his position.
Addressing the media in Bengaluru, Shivakumar refuted claims suggesting his visit to Delhi was aimed at retaining his role as the state party president. He stated, "No. It's bogus, all are planted stories. The party has made me the state's president for five years. It gave me the Deputy Chief Minister post and has groomed me since 1989 by making me a minister then. Does the party want me to sit at home after empowering me?" He further affirmed his dedication, saying, "No matter in which position I am, I will be there for the party."
Shivakumar also addressed internal criticisms, particularly from Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna, who has been vocal about leadership changes. Rajanna, a close associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has demanded Shivakumar's replacement and even hinted at resigning from his ministerial post. In response, Shivakumar remarked, "Rajanna has not spoken with me. I don't answer to those leaders who make statements in the media. If anyone comes to me, I can guide them."
Emphasizing collective leadership, Shivakumar highlighted the party's strategy for upcoming elections. He noted his previous roles, stating, "In the last election, I was the campaign committee chairman when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister for the first term. During the last election, I held the state's presidential post, and now I am the Deputy Chief Minister. The vibration, strength, and experience that I have will be utilized by the party."
He also underscored Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's pivotal role, describing him as the "undisputed leader of the Congress party in Karnataka." Shivakumar added, "Siddaramaiah is our Chief Minister, he is our leader. We want him for all the polls... He is serving as Chief Minister for the second time and is doing a good job."
Addressing the party's internal matters, Shivakumar issued a stern warning against public dissent. He stated that notices would be issued, and disciplinary action taken against Congress leaders who publicly discuss leadership changes or advocate for additional Deputy Chief Minister positions. "Anyone issuing public statements on changing CM or DCM will face disciplinary action by AICC and KPCC. Discipline is paramount for the party," he asserted.
In a call for unity, Shivakumar urged party members to resolve issues internally and avoid media speculation. He emphasized, "The party's welfare is more important than making statements in the media. Anyone facing issues should discuss and resolve them with the high command."
As the Karnataka Congress navigates its internal dynamics, Shivakumar's statements reflect a commitment to cohesion and a focus on the party's broader objectives.
