Mumbai, Feb 27: On the 23rd anniversary of the tragic 2002 Godhra train incident, producer Ekta Kapoor reflected on her latest film, The Sabarmati Report, calling it a project that goes beyond cinema.

"Some stories are more than just films; they are responsibilities," Ekta stated. "With The Sabarmati Report, we aimed to uncover the truth while handling the subject with the utmost sensitivity."

Vikrant Massey Calls the Film India’s ‘9/11’

Actor Vikrant Massey, who plays a determined journalist in the film, emphasized that the story is about more than just an incident.

"It’s about the deep impact it left on the nation—how some used the tragedy to push their agendas, ignoring the lives lost and the families shattered. This was our 9/11. Being part of such a powerful narrative has been a humbling experience," he said.

Massey also highlighted the film’s rare honor of being screened in Parliament, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi among its viewers. "The support from the Prime Minister—and the overwhelming response from the entire nation—makes me believe that there is still space for cinema that reflects society."

A Hard-Hitting Narrative on the 2002 Godhra Incident

Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film also features Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in pivotal roles. The story follows a journalist investigating the 27th February 2002 burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra, Gujarat. Years later, another reporter uncovers his hidden findings, unraveling a conspiracy linked to powerful figures while facing threats in the pursuit of truth.

The film has received appreciation from several prominent leaders, including PM Modi, who praised the effort on social media. “Joined fellow NDA MPs at a screening of The Sabarmati Report. I commend the makers for their effort,” he posted on X.

Ekta Kapoor’s Spiritual Visit to Maha Kumbh

Beyond her film ventures, Ekta Kapoor also made a spiritual journey to the Maha Kumbh earlier this month. She shared glimpses of her holy dip on Instagram, accompanied by TVF founder Arunabh Kumar, soaking in the sacred experience.
